To commemorate World AIDS Day on December 1, 2023, Project VIDA is welcoming everyone to our Prevention Services facility at 4111 W. 26th Street. We are encouraging walk-ins to receive FREE HIV/STI testing services on this day to spread awareness of the need for everyone to get tested.
Reducing Stigma and Normalizing HIV/STI Testing: Sexual health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, yet stigma often surrounds HIV/STI testing, deterring individuals from seeking essential health services. However, we want to take a proactive step by organizing a Day of Testing Event to advocate the #TestPlayRepeat initiative, emphasizing the importance of routine testing for all individuals.
The event aims to redefine the perception of testing for HIV/STIs, breaking down barriers of stigma and misconceptions. By encouraging an open and inclusive atmosphere, Project VIDA is a safe space where individuals feel empowered to prioritize their sexual health without fear of judgment or stigma.
#TestPlayRepeat: According to HIV.GOV, approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV, with about 13 percent unaware of their status and in need of testing. It’s not just about knowing your status for one infection, but also understanding the comorbidity of STIs. Testing positive for one increases the risk of testing positive for another. Certain groups, such as MSM, trans individuals, and Black Cis Heterosexual women, are at higher risk of HIV. However, through the #TestPlayRepeat campaign, we want to emphasize the need for everyone to get tested to play the game safer. The #TestPlayRepeat campaign emphasizes proactive sexual health practices, highlighting the significance of regular testing and the adoption of safer behaviors. It underscores the universal nature of testing, advocating that it is crucial for everyone, whether sexually active, engaging with new partners, or involved with multiple partners. Routine testing is regarded as a fundamental measure for both personal and communal health safety.
Day of Testing Event: Friday, December 1st, 2023, Project VIDA is hosting a day dedicated to FREE walk-in HIV/STI testing, providing education, resources for PrEP and other referrals, and giveaways. Educating individuals not only in HIV/AIDs prevention but also serving to destigmatize these health concerns, enabling informed decision-making regarding their sexual health. We’ll have staff available to discuss our different services and programs available for Prevention, Care, and Wellness needs. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable getting tested in private. Remember: testing isn’t just about finding out if you have an STI. It’s about taking control of your health and making informed decisions about your future.
Our hope is that through this event we can destigmatize, normalize, and encourage testing for all. Play the game safer #TestPlayRepeat.
